Biomass Cogeneration Plants (ORC Turbines)

Eric-Son supplies supply highly efficient turnkey biomass cogeneration plants with Organic Rankine Cycle turbines for the simultaneous production of power and heat for both industrial processes and district heating. Additionally, by using an absorption chiller, the system implemented by Eric-Son is also able to generate cooling energy.

Numerous industrial processes relating to organic products create large quantities of residual substances that can be successfully used as fuels in biomass cogeneration plants. This includes a large variety of biomass, such as wood chips, wood waste, sanding dust, bark, rice husk, distiller’s grain, oil pressing leftovers and other types of agricultural residues.

Replacing fossil fuels with biomass reduces emission, operating and fuel costs, and also allow companies to be eligible for significant feed-in tariffs and carbon credits. This in turn, assist companies in mitigating their dependency from substantial price fluctuations of fossil fuels and maintain their competitive advantage.

Function of a CHP plant with Organic Rankine Cycle turbine:

A cogeneration plant (CHP) based on the Organic Rankine Cycle has a similar working principle like the conventional Steam Rankine Cycle. The main difference is that instead of water, an organic working medium with favourable thermodynamic properties is used at lower temperatures and pressures. The simultaneous production of heat and power allows to achieve much higher efficiencies and to reduce costs, compared to the sole production of power.
